Statement of commitment

Career Focus Victoria Pty Ltd recognises its moral and legal responsibility to provide a level of privacy for all employees and clients in relation to personal data that they may provide. This commitment is also extended to ensuring that the operation of the organisation does not put the individual at risk of personal information disclosure unless authorisation is obtained by the individual concerned.

Objectives

Career Focus will:

  • Provide safe and secure storage of personal private information
  • Ensure compliance with the legislative requirements and current industry standards, including the Privacy Act 1988, the Private Sector Amendment 2000, and any subsequent amendments.
  • Provide information to employees and clients to ensure their privacy is maintained.
  • Ensure that clients and employees are aware of their rights under the Act

Application of the Policy

This policy is applicable to all Career Focus operations and functions. This policy and conditions only applies to all information collected after December 2001, as well as any already existing information that is used or disclosed after this date.

Information held by Career Focus

Career Focus currently collects and holds information in relation to its employees and clients. This information is required for us to provide services for you. Every effort will be made to ensure that the collected and held information is accurate, complete and up to date and is used only for the purposes as set forth herein. Your information will be stored securely and held for a period of 7 years, after which it will be destroyed. This information includes, but is not limited to:

  • Information relating to the personal background of certain clients (such as their home address, gender, date of birth, nationality, employment history, and educational qualifications
  • Resumes of some clients
  • Information Career Focus retrieves from you as a consequence of a job application
  • Original assessment materials and original results of psychological assessments, ability tests, interviews, individual development tools such as 360 degree feedback, as well as any feedback reports provided as a result of these tests.

This information is held for a variety of reasons as specified by the client. Any information that is gained from a client is only to be used and disclosed for the stated primary purpose as advised by the client. If a secondary purpose is required of the information, then the consent of the client will be obtained prior to the use of this information.

Information that is collected is done so for a number of reasons:

  • To prepare an assessment report, which could be used for career development and transition
  • So that job applications can be identified and used by us to assess suitability for a position for a potential employer.
  • To aid in developing organisation effectiveness
  • To aid in developing effectiveness at the individual client level

Our employees are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information we hold. However, we will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access to personal information.

Disclosure of your Personal Information

We will not disclose any personal information about you without your consent unless:

  • We are required by law to do so.
  • It lessens a serious threat to a person's health or safety.
  • You are a job applicant - the information you provide is available to the client (your potential employer) that arranged for you to complete the job application and selection process.
  • Your information may also be provided to researchers conducting statistical analysis. However, this information will not contain any information that is capable of identifying you.
  • The National Privacy Principles otherwise allow the disclosure to take place.

Access to personal information

In accordance with the Privacy Act, an individual can access personal information about them held by Career Focus, and has a right to correct the information if they believe it is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. An individual can request access to the personal information that we hold by contacting Career Focus. Access to personal information can only be accessed by authorised individuals or organisations. In the case of testing of individuals undertaken for organisations, the assessed individuals can gain access to their assessment information by contacting Career Focus. The results and assessment report will be provided to the organisation that requested the assessment.

Changes to our Privacy Policy and complaints

If we decide to change our privacy commitment, we will post those changes on our website so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone.
